If you discover bugs or other strange, unusual or misleading behaviour of pam_usbng, I'd be please if you tell me what went wrong, to successively make the software getting better.

Nevertheless, it's very important to give me enough feedback to be able to reproduce or, at least, trace what went wrong. A full bug-report should contain:

The main configuration file is usually stored in \texttt{/etc/pamauth-ng.conf}. All lines beginning with a hash '\verb+#+' or a newline character are skipped. This isn't the case for hashes inbetween lines for they play an important role on partition number designation.

The pam_usbng package has been written to make everyday-use of Linux systems more comfortable.

When the token is plugged out, authentication will be rejected. Otherwise, authentication is permitted with or without a passphrase, as you deserve.

Note that, thus securly implemented, pam_usbng has not been developed for use in very sensitive environment. I personally use pam_usbng for my notebook, so I don't have to type my passwords for su, sudo, ssh, login, gdm and xscreensaver dozens of times a…

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is pam_usbng?

pam_usbng is a software suite which provides all necessary components for using commodity USB storage devices for authentication on your Linux box.

Authentication is always bound to a specific user and a specific physical medium (the USB device itself). Nevertheless, it's possible to put a virtually arbitrarily large number of authentication codes on just one device. A fair number of security-related techniques have been used to make pam_u…
